Dog Astronomy, parts 4364 - 4367

 4364. If you have been reading this manuscript from the beginning then you might perhaps remember that birds also have universal memory and consciousness. 

 4365. Since it has not been mentioned for so long in these stories, I will refresh your memory about that subject. Universal consciousness means that all birds can share the same experiences, and what one bird sees and feels, they can all experience at the same time.

 4366. Universal memory refers to the fact that what one bird remembers, they can all remember. Therefore, bird memories are eternal, and what one bird experienced a thousand years ago, can be remembered by any pigeon, or sparrow that happens to land on your birdbath.

 4367. All of those skills add up to a formidable collection of information, but bird information is entirely empirical, and made up of accumulated experiences, and is devoid of any kind of experimentation.

Dog Astronomy, parts 4360 - 4363

 4360. If you look at a bottle, perhaps the sides of it are parallel, but if you twist your eyes with your thumb and a forefinger the bottle’s edges will look crooked. 

 4361. Just because a bottle looks crooked, does not mean that it is actually crooked. Probably just your eyes are crooked, and not the bottle itself.

 4362. Believe it or not, it often happens that people will think a bottle is twisted, and not the eyes that are looking at it, but birds can never be deceived it by crooked lines that are actually parallel. It would make flying too dangerous. 

4363. But Remo was not a bird, and so he did not have the benefit of all that knowledge that comes from so many years of looking at the earth from above. Birds have a bird like view, which can be likened the Gods’ perspective.

Dog Astronomy, parts 4356 - 4359

 4356. Don’t tell me over again that we are always doomed to sift through multiple and various perceptions in the search of some average, and so be content with some approximation of events.

 

 4357. It is a worldview only trust fund babies can afford to entertain.

 4358. The Rooster knows, just as I know, that reality exists, and if you show it any disrespect you can expect it to assert itself in an aggressive and angry way.

4359. Reality exists because it is based on the unitary persistence of physical phenomena arranging its elements throughout time and space. Reality exists, only perception, sometimes distorted and disrupted by the limitations of our senses, creates confusion.

Dog Astronomy, parts 4352 - 4355

 4352. It was early evening and the sun was just going down, and so Remo thought to himself that he would point out how the sun sets in the middle of the wheat field, because it was the wheat field time of year right then.

 4353. He ran up to the highest point in the area, where there was a view of the surrounding countryside. Otis and the Rooster went with him, hoping despite their doubts, for some clarification of the strange things Remo had been saying. 

 4354. What happened next may be difficult for you to believe, but I assure you that it is exactly as it happened, and I have it on the best authority, that being the Rooster himself. The Rooster being a bird, is incapable of inventing anything, and always reports the truth, and nothing but the truth. 

4355. Don’t start telling me that there is no such thing as truth, and that each person has their own perceptions of events and therefore their own private reality, I don't want to hear it. 

Dog Astronomy, parts 4348 - 4351

 4348. They suspected that underneath it all there was some kind of truth to be uncovered, but had no idea what it might be.

 4349. What Remo said about the setting of the sun seemed to them to be obviously false, and so they both, almost in unison, said the same thing.

 4350. “The sun,” they said, “Never sets in the same place twice.” Then the Rooster elaborated for dramatic effect saying, “The sun comes down like lightning, and never strikes the ground in the same place twice.”

4351. How could it be that those three animals could have such diametrically opposed ideas about the sun? The explanation is rather obvious. The answer is, the location of the bed you go to sleep in every night gives rise to your Cosmology, and therefore of your Astronomy.

Dog Astronomy, parts 4344 - 4347

 4344. It always does this every day, proving that it is moving, but so slowly you can’t see it. But I am talking about a different kind of movement, the changing of the place where the sun sets. Trying to see any movement it that position takes weeks and weeks. 

4345. Finally, at the end of the fall, the sun seemed to reach the end of her journey across my Mistress’s back yard.

  4346. Otis and the Rooster listened to this explanation of Remo’s about the setting of the sun with as much patience as they could, but in truth, they had no idea what he could possible be talking about.

4347. They listened to him as an adult listens to a child, a precocious child, who comes home from school quoting ideas he doesn’t really understand. 

Dog Astronomy, parts 4340 - 4343

 4340. But the sun seemed to be unable to maintain any relationships for very long, after a while she stopped visiting the barn, left the barn behind and began to visit a large field of wheat. 

 4341. It was during the few weeks that the sun was going down in the wheat field that I first began to form a suspicion that the sun was on some kind of very slow journey, from one place to another.

 4342. The slowness of the suns journey across the wheat field from one side to the other, was simply unbelievable. The sun moves much slower that a turtle or a snail, and actually, if you did not know it was moving, you would think it is perpetually standing still.

 4343. This is not to say that the sun doesn’t move across the sky in an almost noticeable way. If you look at it for a few minutes it certainly seems to be stand still, but when you look back a few hours later it will be in a completely different place.
