The Captain's Sculpture, parts 128 - 131

128. I began to cast around in my mind for some new concept to work on, but it is not so easy to think up a new concept out of thin air.

129. Then the Director of the museum came into the sculpture class one afternoon and destroyed all my ideas, with one accidental off hand comment.

130. Against the wall in the back of the studio was my best piece, a manhole cover I had finished coloring with blue-black paint. It was perfect in every way, and I was about to take it home and hang it on the wall of my garage.

131. The Director of the museum looked at it and said, “Where did you get this thing, from the public works department.”
