The Captain's Sculpture, parts 140 - 143


 
140. I wanted ‘realness,’ and would settle for nothing less. That is what I was thinking about, as I wandered the streets of the city late at night.


141. “Wandered the streets of the city,” that is what I said in the above sentence, but it is not really true, it was not the streets of the city I was walking, but the sidewalks.


142. But if I had said, “Late at night as I wandered the sidewalks of the city,” it would not have sounded as poetic.


 143. I was trying to think of a way to make my casts more interesting, when I came across one of those metal plates you find in the sidewalk that give access to something underneath.
